Illustration Friday - Perennial

This is Sylvester on his day off. He likes to fly kites. And talk to birds.

Quick illustration for this week's topic 'perennial'. The word 'perennial' led me to think of fynbos - very strong and resilient shrubs and plants indigenous to my hometown, Cape Town :) So you can spot some proteas and ericas dotted around.

Some process work..

  1. I really like the way you did this! I love the border and the background and how it all works together. I'm trying to learn some digital art techniques; which software did you use for this?

  2. Hey Laurie! Thanks! :) I used Adobe Illustrator - you can also multiply like you would normally do in Photoshop in Illustrator. Illustrator also has some fab textured brushes, so you can take normal flat vector linework and give the actual linework a texture - I used the textured brushes on the protea guy in the middle of the frame :) What do you normally use to create your artwork? Are you an inker?
